Life is always a wonderful blessing. But for every sunny day we’re privileged to enjoy, we also have to face some not-so-sunny days. A loss in the family is one of the most difficult challenges that life can throw at us. But as adults, we’re fortunate enough to understand such loss. It feels like a kick to the stomach, but at least we understand. So, how do I explain to my three-year-old that Grandma is never coming to dinner again? As parents, it’s our burden and privilege to guide our children through the ups and downs. Sometimes the proper words are hard to find, but just showing up is half the battle. “Where’s Lolita?” is my gift to those struggling to find the words.
